I have read alomost every post in this forem. I realise ther are many pros and cons, but my main concern is will i emermege as the best physician i can be. The recruter has spent hours blowing sunshine up my A**, but all i care about is being a good doctor. This may sound naieve, but this is my main concern. Crappy tours are to be expeced, I belive in the military, and would like to serve, but not if i will emerge a second rate doctor. Any suggestions........

I think that you could become a second rate physician even if you went thru residency at a top 10 program. Becoming an excellent physician will ultimately depend on your resolve, character, determination, tenacity, and will-- not on the program that you attend...

Take my opinion for what it's worth. Being in the military is a different method to achieve your goal.

Although, you must realize that other priorities will compete for your time while on active duty. Can you balance two callings simultaneously? Being a skilled physician and a skilled officer may sometimes entail different qualities and priorities. Are you willing to be more than just a physician when those instances occur?

Can you cope with the fact that the military's mission is to break things and kill people when all other diplomatic channels fail?

Hope my point of view will help you decide what's best for you. Good luck in your decision-making.

It's very important to ask yourself what specialty you are going into. In my not so humble opinion you can do quite well in some specialty areas but not as well in others.
