It's a service learning class that I signed up for to complete a "citizen scholar" program that they would put on my diploma. It requires 90 volunteer hours.

I would be fine with this...except now my parents are complaining about how they won't be able to take me anywhere because it'll take up too much time. (I'm 17...don't have a car 🙁). Also I am taking a heavy course load this semester as it is...

I'm thinking about dropping it, and maybe taking it again next semester when things are easier.

I'm just worried about the impact a "W" will have on my application. It's a pass/fail (A/F) course.

What do you guys think? 😕

Need advice fast.

Well how extensive are your E.C.'s? If you are weak on volunteer hours then I would say that you should tell your parents that you really need their help in strengthening your application. It is important to show to DS adcoms that your contribution to your community is important to you and that you do it consistently.

I was involved in my campus honor society that also required a minimum amount of volunteer hours per semester. It was an excellent opportunity to get hours out of the way for my DS application.

My recommendation would be to tell your parents to suck it up and drive you around to wherever you need to go. If they want you to succeed they need to help you.

If by some small chance, you just don't want to take the course because you went to the first couple classes and realized that its going to take a lot of time and it will detract from your guild raid time in World of Warcraft then my advice is to get over yourself. Even the largest class load during undergrad pales in comparison to the class load you will experience in D-school. Take the class, do the work, and stop whining.

Good luck!
