Hey Guys,

I'm taking Anatomy this summer and applying as well. I wanted to know if it was unwise to drop the class given my particular situation. For simplicities sake, I've just bullet pointed the main issues:

Reasons not to drop:

-It's the only upper div science class that I'll have besides biochem

-I listed it on my application and planned on updating it in September

-adcoms will notice that I listed it on my initial application but did not take it

Reasons to drop:

-I'm getting burned out...
I studied 8 hrs/day for Spring finals at the end of March and beginning of May, 8-10hrs/day for the DAT the day after my last final until last week, and immediately again for my Anatomy midterm this week (we have another midterm coming up in a 1.5 weeks). I also have work.

-I think I have demonstrated to adcoms that I am competent in science by getting a 23 TS on the DAT

-There would be no indication on my transcript that I had taken the class (I checked with 2 counselors and my professor, no W or anything)

What do you guys think....would it be unwise to drop my Anatomy class given the information above?

Doesn't matter, you sound ready for D1!!

Don't drop it. Anatomy is a lot of work, but it is hands down the best class I've ever had. Several schools require it, and many more recommend it so depending on which schools you have in mind you may end up having to take it before matriculation anyways.

Take it. It will better prepare you for the anatomy/head and neck anatomy classes in dental school. My biggest regret was not signing up for any sort of anatomy class in undergrad.

Anatomy will help you a lot in dental school (at least it did for me). If you are burned out take it pass/fail if you can. You can get a C/B and it won't affect your GPA.

As someone else said, some schools require anatomy. I would stick with it.

Thanks for the responses guys.

I'm 80% sure that I'm not going to drop it now that there are only 4 weeks left in summer semester. It's only required for 1 school I applied to (OHSU) but recommended by almost all. Also since I don't have any other upper div science classes besides biochem (I'm a non-science major) I'm probably going to look like a stronger applicant with it than without.

Good points you make DB. I hadn't noticed your thread until now, but I hope my input edges up that 80% a bit more. I'm with everyone else here, and with you, stick with it, you can still relax your brain a bit before dental school starts anyway.

I'm a bit jealous you're taking it now, while I took it years ago and hardly remember anything, it'll actually be of practical benefit for you in dschool.

Good luck, and keep studying!
