Well this maybe has been posted before, maybe not. But I just wanted to see if anyone has had the same feeling or any advise/something to say. I just don't know if i'm doctor material. I'm not brilliant and I feel stupid sometimes in math and other classes in school. I also just took the specialty picker quiz and my highest match was a 67% match which makes me feel like i shouldn't even become one. So anything you have to say and/or have you ever had this feeling or experience.

Thanks,
David 😀

If your highest percentage for potential specialty picker is just 67% it probably means that you don't exactly fit that specialty but still fit somehow. I suggest you shadow a doctor to refine your goals and interests to see just which specialty you would be enjoy and excel at. Also, don't take those specialty pickers as being 100% accurate.

👍 definitely don't base whether you'd enjoy being a doctor off of an online specialty quiz.

You can do whatever you want in life

Doctors aren't the smartest of all people, some doctors are actually quite naive and I even question their judgement on topics

Being smart is a relative argument.

You don't have to be smart to study medicine, or, for the most part, other things in life as well.

You DO however, have to be a hard worker and determined. If you are not, you will not succeed in anything, plain and simple. The concepts aren't impossible to learn. Buckling down and studying is the hardest part.

As Arijos said, hard work is much more important than smarts. None of the material in medical school is that difficult, there is just a lot of it. Just try not to be frustrated when it seems like some people are getting by more easily than you. For everyone that skates through there are 10 more students that are really working at it. You have a long road ahead though and if you are already questioning it than you should shadow some and make sure this is what you really want to do. You have plenty of time, keep an open mind. As long as you enjoy it you will naturally put the effort in!!

I wouldn't worry too much about a little online survey/quiz. Go with what your gut feels. I can tweak just a few tiny settings on the quiz and all of the results will switch. Things that went on the bottom of the list might move all the way to the top. The results are not necessarily accurate. In terms of knowledge, it's not something that we're born with. You have to work hard to acquire it. Some people need to work harder than others (I am one of those people). If you have the drive, and can work hard, you should be fine.
