Hi everyone,

I have recently been accepted to Touro California DO program as well as Northstate MD program. I am also waitlisted for UC Davis and had an interview with EVMS recently (they haven't gotten back to me yet). Touro is asking me for $2000 non-refundable deposit which is due tomorrow. However, I'm having a hard time deciding if I should pay $2000 for Touro or go with Northstate for now till I hear back from other schools. So my question is, given my situation, would you suggest choosing Touro or Northstate?

Can you afford to lose that $2000 if you get into one of your other MD schools? If so, put it down. I think the consensus is that MD is better than DO (as far as going to school and having more open doors—not that MDs are superior) if you have the choice, but that CNU might have a bad enough rep to mitigate that.

If you’re having that many hang ups about not spending $2000 with an acceptance to CNU, maybe that’s telling you something and you’d actually rather go to Touro if those are your only two options.

Personally, I would kiss the $2000 goodbye and jump ship to EVMS or UC Davis if you have the chance. I would avoid CNU like a plague and, unless you drink the osteopathic-flavored kool-aid, choose any other MD over a DO school.

Touro.

CNU is the only MD school I can't advise accepting over a DO school. Do a search as to why.

Consider the $2K insurance.

As of right now, the OP doesn't have those luxuries, hence his/her question.
