Hi guys I'm new to this forum and hope this is the right area to post this. So I recently started my Freshman year as Pre-med/ Bio Major and Ive been doing terrible. Not in the 80's terrible, but in the 70's or potentially failing terrible. This goes specifically to my entry level Chemistry and Calculus classes. Math has never been my strong suit, and my Chem class plus its lab makes it even worse. My Chem grade is failing, but my Calc is hovering on the edge in the low 70's. In Bio Im interested in the subject matter (Genetics and Cell Division) but Im still in the low 80s for that, this is also my first time taking Bio in 4 years but I still feel like I could do better. My goal has been to either head into Sports Medicine or become a PA and now despite my strong passion for it, I feel like this might be unrealistic. Sorry for the rant, but any advice on which path I should take would be greatly appreciated

I wouldn't say you need to reconsider a career in medicine. You should reevaluate your study habits before jumping to a change of future career.

A lot of people get off to a rocky start the beginning of freshman year. You need to learn how to study as well as learn the material. Once you feel that your study habits are solid and that you're performing the absolute best you're capable of then come back and ask this question again.

You'll be fine - I got a C in gen chem and B in biology my first semester and I now have 2 interview invitations. Just make sure you work hard for the rest of your undergraduate career with a strong upward trend in your GPA. Good luck!

Your "Path" should take you to one of your school's academic counselors, provided group tutoring sessions, faculty open office hours, or even hiring someone for one-on-one assistance. You need to nail down your study strategies, not give up. A bad first term will not bar you from future med school consideration.

A bad first 3 years will not bar you from future med school consideration, though I highly recommend avoiding that path...
