Hi everyone, I just took my DAT today and here are my scores:

PAT 18
Bio 19
Gen Chem 21
O Chem 23
TS 20
RC 15
QR 14
AA 18

I was so nervous during the second half of the test, and I messed up both the RC and QR. My current GPA is 4.04. I'm going to submit my application this week. Do you guys think I should retake the DAT or keep it?

You obviously did great in the sciences but I think a retake is necessary. But again your GPA is 4.0 so I don't know...

I am not in dental school, but I'm definitely certain of two things:
1. assuming you use those scores for applications, adcoms will be suspicious of the rigor of your school as your GPA is way beyond stellar.
2. a lot of schools use 17 as the minimum score for each section to be considered for admissions.

Verdict: retake is advised.

But his science scores are great??? why would adcom be suspicious? cuz he sucks at english composition? LOL

I'd wish to retake but it will be in september and I'm submitting my application this week. Do schools accept late scores after the application is submitted?

I don't see anything wrong with you retaking on September, plenty of people do that, just notify the schools about that. :luck:

If and when you redo it what would you do differently to not have a repeat?

I would retake. Even though most schools don't care much about math, a 14 would most likely be a no-go. Reading score isn't good either, some schools look at that score. I got an 18 my first time and even got a 14 on the math section too. September isn't too late.

Best choice would be to call the schools you're applying too and ask about math and reading. The rest of your DAT is great.

Hi, do the schools look at my application after my second DAT score is submitted or before?

I will spend more time studying and practicing these two sections. I actually spent the least amount of time in these two sections.

Thank you for your advice. What resources did you use the second time?

GPA is great, but I don't think you will meet the cut-off for RC/QR of many schools.
I retook my first, due to 14/16 GC/OC.

You'll do much better, if you put the effort into the next test!

Use Math Destroyer for QR, and just solve as many problems as you can.
I think QR is all about exposure, efficiency, and recognizing what kind of problem you have in front of you.
Sorry, I can't comment about RC as I did not study for it.

I actually know someone who was accepted to UF with a 14 QR on the condition that they retake the DAT and have to score at least a 15 (or 16?, whatever their minimum is) in the QR section, while still passing all the other sections. Talk about pressure!

Still, you should talk to your pre-health advisor to see what to do. I don't think it's so much the QR as it is the RC, which is way more important of a score. Yes you still should apply this week if you want to apply this cycle to get your app done, you can say that you plan to take the DAT in the future so the adcoms don't review your file with your current score.

Are the schools still going to look at my application, and is it going to delay the whole procedure?
