Hello! I'm new to the SDN and astonished by the tons of information available on this site! If I only found this site earlier it would have been so much easier and helpful...
But reading through this site I had one question on the classes that I've took at a CC. Due to financial reasons I was at a CC for two years and actually took all my requisite classes for dental school at the CC. Then I transferred to a four year state school and took many upper level bio classes (physiology, biochem, genetics, micro etc.) as a bio major.
I have a 4.0 gpa for both my CC and 4 year university and have taken more classes at the 4 year university.
I have also taken my DAT already and have an academic average of 22 and science average is 23 (bio26 chem22 org22)
But reading through the post I felt concerned on the fact that I've taken "all" my prerequiste classes at a CC (gen bio 1,2 gen&org chem 1,2)
So my question is do you guys think that it would be a good idea to retake some of these classes at my 4 year university to become a better applicant, or should I leave this at it is and just graduate?😕

Others will disagree more than likely but I don't see a problem at all. You did well in CC then backed it up with your DAT scores and your upper level classes. No worries.

I too took Gen Chem, Gen Bio and spent 2 years at a CC. I don't think you have anything to worry about at all. We have almost the same scores but yours are a little better than mine (is it obvious that I'm jealous?). I hope you applied this cycle with those awesome stats. I did and even though I applied kind of late so far I have received 6 interview invites (DAT 7/31). So I dont think you are at an disadvantage. If you are really worried just apply to 15+ schools but keep in mind that it is finanically draining paying for the apps and traveling costs. Good luck. hope this helped

I personally wouldn't worry about it in the slightest.

Especially if some of those upper division classest are in bio/science, then you're golden.

Some schools flat out won't accept CC credits (Tufts supposedly is one).

But, since you did well on more advanced classes at a 4 year college and did really well on the DAT, I can't imagine schools without a strict policy being concerned. The concern (for most people, at least) with CC credits is that you haven't proven yourself -- there is almost no screening value from CC classes. Dental faculty aren't going to know if your CC professor is one of those hard-asses who makes his class tougher than most 4 year colleges, or if he's the type who gives anyone an A as long as as they have a pulse.

You have plenty of additional information of screening value. Nothing is guaranteed, but I wouldn't worry. I would verify with the schools, though -- you don't want to find out next Spring that their computers are saying you need to take a dozen classes.
