Should I rewrite my Personal Statement?????

So I'm going to be a re-applicant..

The first time I applied I was rejected most likely because of the 6 I got on the BS section the mcat (ive managed to bump it up to a 10, and everything else is already above a 10). Also I applied pretty late.


So do I even have to rewrite my Personal Statement since my MCAT is probably what held me back? My motivation for medicine hasnt changed. My experiences havent changed (I've continued volunteering at the same places).

Maybe I should mention that I improved my mcat on my personal statement? But I dont really want to draw attention to it... So what do I do? I read somewhere on sdn that adcoms throw away your application if you reuse your personal statement.

Did you change it at all ( like make minimal revisions) or did you keep it exactly the same? Reading that adcoms throw out your app if you reuse it has made me a bit nervous.. Also congrats on getting accepted, I hope I'm as lucky.

I hope you are as well. I did go back and edit my personal statement and revise it a small amount because it was easier to see how it needed work after leaving it alone for a year. You wouldn't be able to tell unless you sat down and read the whole thing, though. I wouldn't change yours if your only motivation is that you think someone will throw your app out if you don't.

For one school I left my secondary essays exactly the same, and that school ended up inviting me to interview (again). I later found out that my secondary essays were very well suited to that school's mission, and if I had changed them for the sake of changing them I might not have gotten the second interview.

From my viewpoint as a professional at writintb/reading these things: If your situation has changed dramatically or you have grown in maturity or insight, I would revisit your statement and amend. If you think the statement was a major flaw in your previous application, then re-write it.
