Hello,
So I have shadowed two doctors already but my MCAT and gpa are not the best so I need the step up with ECs. I have the option of shadowing a lab technologist. She works in one of those clinics where they draw blood, test it, and send the results to doctors. Should I shadow her or will medical schools think its resume padding?

If you get something out of it no experience is bad experience.

No reason not to give it a try if you think it's interesting and have the time to do it .

You could shadow her if you're interested but it's not something that should be on an application to medical school.

the shadowing would be irrelevant to an MD application. If you try to improve your ECs you gotta do something better than that...

shadowing a lab tech doesn't sound too interesting or useful.

I am going to do shadowing a Dr. during the year. So you think it would add much to my resume? What do you suggest something better is?

that, or get involved with something non medical related, if you're not already. Tutoring, helping disadvantaged people, etc. etc. Something that you can write about why it's meaningful and how it has changed you.

Shadowing a lab tech doesn't give you insight into the work of physicians. I would see it as resume padding, bc you couldn't find a better EC.
