I am currently a junior in high school and I am in AP Language and Composition and my in-class essays are not earning good grades. The highest inclass essay grade I have gotten in that class was a one time only 79/100. My grade in that class is very low. I dont know if I should drop the AP and go to a CP English 11, which I will earn an A in. My objective is to get into a 6 year pharmacy program.. Would the AP Language class matter much? What should I do?? Any Advice???

I don't know much about the 6 year program so no help there. Like in my school CP means College prep which is below honors. If you are serious about this six year thing I really suggest you stay after school or get an English tutor or SOMETHING. I am in CP English 11 and have an A haha. Dude, I would kill to be in that AP (bad grades freshman year, basically killed me, I didn't care).

Bottom line: If you really try hard and stay after school keep it dude, please, thats a good class. If you really really really cannot handle it DROP IT THEN, you are better off just pulling an A or B in CP English than sacrificing your GPA with a bad grade in an AP class you are not good at.

Good luck.

Even though your trying to get into a 6 year pharmacy program, does a AP Lang&Composition (credit and class) even matter???? I am going to take AP calc and AP Bio next year....

Give me advice please.
thanks.

Tommy:

Lots of science kids are not good writers - I remember a pharmacy school admissions rep joking about that. So it's not going to shock them that you're not coming in with AP english credit. Many freshmen take a compostion class their first semester and most colleges have a writing lab and tutors available. Taking an AP class and getting a C is not a good idea, imo, because your gpa is a primary factor in admissions. Also, what is the point if you're not fairly confident you can score high enough on the AP test to actually earn the credit? If you're a math/science star, focus on rigorous classes there instead.

I would say talk to your GC about switching if you can't get one on one help with your writing. You will have to learn how to write decent essays sometime and taking a lower level class that teaches you this without expecting such a high level of performance may be the way to go.
