I have the other letters in, and my application's set to go.
But should I submit another one from a dentist? My only worry is that it'll take another 2-3 weeks for that letter to get sent at the fastest.
Since my application's technically complete, will the adcom start evaluating my application (and look at the dentist's recommendation just as an additional factor)?
I was wondering if anyone was in the same situation..and had any opinion on this matter. Thanks.

some schools REQUIRE a dentist LOR. you have to check their websites.

Do you have one from a dentist already?

also, itll take like 3-4 weeks maybe to get it mailed to the schools. i am still waiting on one sent out around the 15th. aadsas says they wont include it in the mailing until AFTER the 7/30 mailing.

Yeah...that's what I'm worried about. But since my application's technically complete, I'm hoping they'll see it as complete (as soon as they get my DAT that is...haha). Tufts is the only one that I saw that asks for dentist's letter, and I'm assuming I can just send it to them directly somehow to bypass all the waiting I have to do with AADSAS...still needs to call Tufts to make sure this is okay, but, oh well..
good luck with your LOE!

Are you saying your evaluator submitted it on the 15th and it's not even going to be out until after the 7/30 mailing? One of my evaluators uploaded his on 7/22 and AADSAS has the mailing date as 7/30. Also, I think it's already available to schools electronically since I received an app complete email from Louisville today.

To the OP: if you already have a dentist that said he will write you one, I would take him up on that offer. It is not going to hurt to have a dental LOE, and it's not going to hold up your application at schools that do not require one.

yeah, thats unfortunately what i am saying... my evaluator sent in a paper form on the 15th, took them til 7/23 to "verify" it, which sucks because electronic seems automatically verified, and now they are saying it takes another week to process it for mailing? pretty ridiculous to me especially after i paid them 1000 dollars to take care of stuff like this.

For the schools who require a letter from a dentist that you've shadowed, can that dentist be a specialist? Doesn't necessarily have to be a gp, right? Because I've been shadowing an oral surgeon the longest (most interesting specialty to shadow by far) and she knows me best.

Yeah that's fine, doesn't have to be from a gp.

Okay so I got a letter of recommendation from a dentist. However, last Friday I called UNLV to check that my application was complete. They said that I had to send another letter from a dentist. They were pretty vague but said that the dentist didn't talk about me shadowing him, but focused on my character and such, and they needed a letter talking more about dentistry. I am applying to 17 schools and called all of them to see if I needed to send another letter to them, too. All of the following schools said that I should send the extra letter from a dentist.

-West Virginia
-Colorado
-Maryland
-UNLV
-Southern Nevada
-Case
-Virginia Commonwealth

And I haven't heard back from 4 other schools. Get that letter in. They actually really care about the dental evaluation if they are asking me to send in another dentist letter to cover what they want.
