I'm a biochemistry major at my school and we don't have to take evolutionary biology. Instead we take cellular, genetics, microbiology, and molecular biology. Do i really need evo. bio to succeed on the MCAT?

Should i take biological evolution?

I didn't enjoy the class at all, but certain concepts about genetics are covered on the MCAT. These are easy to learn from a review book.
I wasn't really referring to genetics. As I listed above, I have to take a separate genetics class anyways, so thats not a problem. I just HATE evolutionary BIO!!!!!
And what I'm saying is topics like alleles and Punnett squares, which are covered in evolutionary biology (wand many other classes), can be learned without taking that awful class.
Haha i think there is a small mix up. At my school we learn how to use the punnet square and all the statistical stuff that goes with genetics in the first two chapters of our genetics class because we're on the semester system.

It may not be helpful for the MCAT but I really liked taking evolution. I live in the South and there are a lot of conservatives here and hence a lot of people who don't believe in evolution. I was skeptical before taking the class but afterwards I can say I firmly believe in evolution and it's one of my favorite topics.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I took multiple evolution courses (Ecology & Evolution, Ecology & Evolution of Disease, Evolution, and now Evolution of Humans) and all the students whined about how much they hated evolution.
I rather take advance organic chemistry than take evolution lmao

I happened to have an evolution passage on my MCAT. I had taken Evolution and Ecology in college, and it helped me nail that passage.
On the other hand, evolution will be covered in your review books to the extent that you'll need to know it for the MCAT.
It's a players call. I say go with it. Learn about speciation and the root of biological science.

I had an evolution passage on my mcat, it was very basic though.
I'd agree with others though, if you're genuinely interested in it I'd take it. Looking back, my high school and college exposure to evolution was very minimal. Like others on here, I live in the south and my high school teacher made it a priority to stress that she was teaching "microevolution" and not "macroevolution," leading us to think there was actually a difference. Most of what I know about evolution now is from casual reading, so I really wish I'd taken a class on it when I had the opportunity.

Blech...evolution is the last class I would take. There's so many other helpful classes. I guess I wouldn't take it because the teachers here in evolution suck. If it's something you'll genuinely enjoy (which it doesn't seem like it) then take it.
My MCAT didn't feature a single question related to evolutionary bio, so from my experience you dont need it at all.
it's awesome stuff from an intellectual standpoint, but completely worthless for MCAT prep.
If you think you will enjoy the class, then take it, but it won't really help you with the MCAT. I personally enjoyed my evolution class and think the topic is fascinating, but that's just me.
