ok, so i know some schools dont like it if you take community college courses, but ive taken most of them at CC. i dont care if i get in anywhere special, i just want to get in (AT STill is good for me, in the same city as i live in). but all i have left is gen bio2, and biochem.

im on another lag year, and am gonna be doing a masters, but will doing those twon next semester be that big of a deal if taken at cc?

No, it won't really hurt you at most schools as long as you can get DAT scores that correspond to your GPA or better. The masters will also show that you can work at the graduate level.

No mater what in the world ppl says....out of my experiences..i would strongly recommend you not go to Community collge because even though u will end up with 30/30 in DAT they will still have a f***king reason to reject...you...

P.S. If you really want to get in some desired school....then its matter. But if you are willing to get in anywhere I think it should be fine..

Just be careful. Some schools have a limit as to the number of CC credits they'll accept.

If it's any help, I took all of my pre-requisites at a community college because I have a BA already in a non-related subject and I was accepted this year with multiple interviews (1st year acceptance). I ended up with a 20/20/25 DAT score overall after studying a month this summer.

The only school I ran into trouble with was Tufts which runs an extremely pompous policy that you can not have any coursework at a community college and if so, it must be retaken. Obviously they are not working on a foundation that is built in the real world but that just helped make my decision easier.

In fact, many admissions councils have told me that a lot of students apply with community college coursework so there's that. In reality, cc is much cheaper and an avenue for those that couldn't do it any other way. If, however, you are enrolled in a 4 year or have the ability to take courses at a 4 year and are just taking courses at a local community college that has a reputation for being easy - that is another story and I'm sure they'd see right through that.

I came to the US fairly recently.. about 5 yrs ago (but I'm a US citizen) and because of that I had to go to a cc (3 semesters) before transferring to a 4yr college. I first thought dental schools wouldn't care a lot since I did well keeping high gpa after transferring and did well on the DAT.

But.. nope- I was wrong and now I'm in trouble.
Max credit you are allowed to get from cc for most dental schools is 64. I took 48 credits from cc.

Many schools won't even let you apply if you took some of the pre-requisite courses from cc. UPenn rejected me after going over my files even though they said I can apply... and I strongly believe it was because they didn't like the fact that I went to cc.

So.. cc bad.

Eh... that's a bit of a broad statement to make. There are a few schools that are real sticklers on CC credit, I think Temple and Tufts maybe, (see Doc's list, though call the school, because some of the one's that say they don't take CC credit are actually willing to), but it seemed to me like most schools were fine with it after the obligatory slap on the wrist of, "well, we would have preferred you to have taken this at your four year."

I'm sorry to hear about your experience, but it's always possible that it was something else other than the fact that you'd taken a few classes at a CC.

this scares me, iver taken ge bio 1 and 2, gen chem 1 and will be taking all the way through orgo 1 and 2 and calculus 1 at a cc. he guys in the pre med forum said ir wont be a big deal, but what about for dental?

if its any consolation, i plan on taking orgo 1,calculus 1 and orgo 2 all within the summer session so that imo is kind of rigorous.
i started college in september 2008, and will be graduating the 2 year program in august 2010, so im not taking it really slow either. i have done a light first semester though but i made up for it in the summer semesters.

community college is fine. I took every single one of my pre reqs at cc and still got 3 pre dec interviews and 3 pre december acceptances, not to mention the other 4 interviews I just canceled. Save some money and go to cc as much as you want... just don't apply to pompous schools like tufts. I was accepted at Pittsburgh, NYU and UMDNJ and got interviews from temple, case, nova, maryland so all those schools are fine with cc. oh and I didnt get a 29347923784 on my DAT either.. just a 20/19/19 and a 3.49 gpa so stop freaking out.

I took most of them at a CC, and I don't think it hurt me in the admission process except that I couldn't apply to a couple of schools. Just be careful not to waste ur money on those schools that don't accept single CC credit.

I know its tough in Arizona to take all prerequisites at a University. The community college system here is huge and they are very flexible with work schedules. I took a mix (mostly CC) for my prerequisites. I took BIO I & II, CHM I & II, Physics I and Microbiology at CC. At the University I took OCHEM I & II, physics II, and biochemistry. So I think with most schools they wont really care especially the AZ schools. But if you can afford it or managed to get the full amount for FAFSA I would recommend taking them at a university. The competetion is getting tough so you never knows what the ADCOMS are going to use to distinguish their applicants. But I think you also have a good shot if you did good in all your prereqs at a CC.

do worry about cc credits. I got my AS at one, and almost all of my prerequisite there too. I got four acceptances so far. So dont listen to anyone that tells you it is a bad move. Definately a good move and wont hurt your chances, as long as you do well in your coursework. and besides cc costs maybe 6000 a Year for everything, where as a four year can cost well into the 30000's. so 12000 debt vs 60000+ do the math
