I want to take Step 3 right before residency starts in June (please, no comments about how this can't be done). I have horrible discipline, and a little ADHD, when it comes to studying for these things. Kaplan worked great for me for Step 2CK. I paid a lot of money, and wanted to get the most out of it, so I went to the center for many hours everyday compulsively checking off the list of video lectures and tests. I get the impression that the Kaplan Step 3 material isn't as good as Step 2CK. I thought I'd run it by you guys first. I want to use a system to prepare myself for both residency and Step 3.

i tried watching the Kaplan step 3 material the i had "chanced" upon... 😉
it's pretty slow going... i took the center prep for step 1 and 2 and it's more doable there because of "checking" the lectures off... and actually putting aside time to go there, and paying for it is a great motivator...
but now that I am really studying for step 3, i've found Crush and USMLE world questions to be great... I'm gonna review the CCS cases from the back of First Aid and from the Blueprints CCS book...
another source is WikiMD (wikipedia site) that has CCS cases... http://69.60.110.99//index.php?title=Step3CCS

I keep contemplating watching the videos, but it would be an enormous time committment, and probably not possible while in residency...

take premier review, blows away kaplan, and is way more up to date. Kaplan doesnt nearly even come close to comparison. Kaplan is out of date and badly. They have the exact same material now as they have had for years. Not updated sad sad situation.

Someone I know took Premier. He said they were very good for Medicine and weak with everything else.

Caveat emptor,

Nu

yes, well Psych wasnt all that great, only ten or so pages. But realistically, there is nothing else on the market that is as good as Premier Review course - not solely notes, for USMLE Step 3, not even close. Supplement with USMLE World for mcqs, and www.usmlesteps123.com and or first aid only for ccs. And you have a very good score more than likely. You dont need more than that and I can stronly attest to that, yes I took the December live lecture course in NJ.

If you have the time and the funds, it's actually pretty good.

great! well after you take the examination, and realize how worthless Kaplan materials are for USMLE Step 3, then let people know about it. A BMW looks really nice, but without an engine it doesnt run at all.

It's just my opinion, friend. Why so hot and bothered?

no no no not hot and bothered dude 🙁 wasnt my intention, I mean an opinion is an opinion, I should have reworded it, meaning that Kaplan is very very good for all steps, except for step 3. It is skimpy with the details, and lacks sustenence. I think that any review course may be helpful, but self study is key to putting it all together on an individualized basis. Did not mean whatsoever to offend you, or any of your statements.
