Hi All,

I guess the title of this topic pretty much sums up my question. I recently ran into one of my dad's friends who works in the MRI department, and she advised me to take medical terminology before anatomy. I am planning on taking anatomy this fall, and was looking forward to having summer off to focus on finding a part time job as a PT aid, but her advice is making me think about taking medical terminology during the summer.

I guess my question is, should I waste time and money to take medical terminology this summer before taking anatomy in the fall? Will it really help that much? Because she acted like that course was essential to take before anatomy.

If medical terminology is not a requirement for your school, there really is no reason to take it before anatomy. I took anatomy last year, without medical terminology, and I did really well. There's a ton of memorization, and it would probably help to take medical terminology first, but it is by no means necessary. If it were, it would be a prerequisite. Just study hard when you take anatomy to learn everything. In my class, studying regularly and keeping up with the class was essential, because there was so much information taught every single class. Good luck!

Makes no difference. If it's a prerequisite, you can take it before or after Anatomy. Honestly, it didn't really help me much.

No. Medical Terminology is a joke. You won't be at an advantage by taking it before Anatomy. I learned most of the terminology by working as a tech and by taking Anatomy. MT was actually one of the last pre-reqs I took before PT school. One word of advice: start paying attention to what the Latin and Greek root words actually mean in English. It makes learning and correctly using the terminology a breeze. You'll be fine.
