Should I take Step II in 3 weeks?

Hi,

I am currently preparing for Step II after having been gone for 2 years. I have been preparing quite a bit, but because I've been gone for so long it has been a slow climb. I just took NBME III today and definitely did not pass. I'm concerned because I am planning to take the test in 3 weeks. I'm concerned that I won't be ready. I didn't do great on Step I so Step II is pretty important. Any advice would be appreciated! I want to do well, so my option by taking it later would be to postpone applying for residency by 1 year.

it depends on a lot of factors, first are you an IMG or AMG? if so apply late and start your preparation now

I'm an American medical grad. I thought about applying late but that might not be a good idea for interviews?
