Medical Should I use my experience with hearing loss in residency personal statement?

Right before medical school started, I lost hearing in my right ear. It's been a challenge to work through in medical school, but I ended up doing very well in both testing and in rotations. Should I make this the topic of my personal statement to show my personal experience with disease/medicine and tell a story about adaptability and resilience?

What does your student dean suggest? I wouldn't mind a little more context on when it really mattered...

If you can spin your experience into something that expresses how it will help you be a better physician, it is great to include as a focal point of your personal statement.

I think it would be good to add to your personal statement, but I don't suggest making your personal statement revolve around this completely. Use it to show how it would make you a better doctor and what you have learned from it.
