Should I use pass/fail or take the letter grade and GPA hit?

Hey guys, I’m having a bit of a dilemma.

I have one final left for a class that I can get a B maximum in. My school gives me the option to mark this class as a pass/fail. As of right now, I have a 3.8 semester GPA without this class factored in. If I were to take the B letter grade, it would drop my GPA quite a bit. The issue is that this class is Developmental Biology. it’s not required for my major — I only took it for upper division credits and to challenge myself (I ended up hating this subject lol). I’m just not sure if having a P in developmental bio would look bad on my transcript, since it is an upper division bio course.

TLDR: Get a P on my transcript for developmental biology or get a B and take a GPA hit? Thanks!

I say go for the P and try again for another upper level bio course

They won’t look or care for 1 pass class. Now if all your upper level sciences are P’s that’s a different story

A single B drops your GPA "quite a bit?"

Define "quite a bit".

Haha, I guess I should have phrased it a bit better, sorry. Maybe I’m being a bit anal, but it would dip my semester GPA by 0.2 (thus harming my upward trend) and my cumulative GPA by 0.1 (not much). I guess it’s mostly the upward trend thing I’m concerned about.

You are being anal. Chill.

If it were at a C-, I would take it pass/fail then retake. But it is not worth it for a B.
