Has anyone taken this route of providing a letter of intent showing deep interest for a particular school that they want an interview from? I keep asking schools and they keep saying that if you have any required documents that just submit that documentation to us and it will be added to your file. Knowing from last year when I submitted four letters of this kind to my file at Western I want to know if it worked for them or not. Obviously in my case, it did not.

hey Hannibal. I hear this works when you are put on a wailist. Im not sure if this has any effect if you have yet to hear back. 🙂

How about sending a letter of intent post interview???

It's definitely better than waiting until you're waiting listed or before the interview (unless you've visited the school and know for sure you like it). There are posts here all the time of pre-dents saying x school was my number one until I interviewed there, so sending a letter of intent post interview, I believe, just reinforces the interest you had before. We all play the game, some obviously better than others, which means we apply to several schools based on which we think will give us the best chance of an acceptance. After all, school is just a means to becoming a dentist: the ultimate goal. Some who know they are studs might be inclined to thoroughly research and only apply to school they are genuinely interested in, but I would say that isn't the case for most.

As the wise Ron Burgundy would say: Agree to disagree!

I hope this doesn't sound too douchey, but if your application and interview aren't enough to convince the admissions committee, then perhaps you're not cut out for this school (at least this year). It's a nice gesture, but completely unnecessary and slightly desperate.

Just send a short, polite thank you card and be done with it. Consider doing it if you're waitlisted.

But what if it works? lol. Wouldn't it be nice to be a fly on the adcom's wall.

Haha, do what you gotta do, I guess. Hopefully you'll get in based on your merit, and not because you sent in a letter of intent.

Actually...LOIs show initiative and drive. I like that. I say go for it.

I'm actually wondering about this too.. whether or not to send a post-interview "update to my AADSAS application". Does it show strong interest, or unnecessary desperation? What do other people think? I'm thinking it could potentially help a lot more than it could hurt..

lawls, yea hopefully the LOI and a thank you mean nothing but better safe than sorry. Wouldn't it be something if you go the, "Gosh, if you only sent us that thank you and LOI..." Is it Dec 1st yet?

On second thought I agree, it does kind of seem desperate.
