I was wondering if anyone in the NYC area has done or knows of any hospitals that have a good SICU rotation. When I say "good" rotation, I mean a rotation where there is a lot of teaching and you walk out of knowing your stuff. Thanks.

dis biscuit..........

I haven't.

But, as a rule, make sure you're doing SICU in a hospital where the SICU team is the primary team for the majority of the patients you're rounding on.

Often, in surgery, the primary surgery attending maintains primary responsibility for each patient he operates on; consequently, the SICU has very little autonomy or independence as far as patient care is concerned.

In fact, I would probably go a step further and encourage you to do an MICU or CICU rotation instead of SICU.

Hopkins has a heckuva good SICU rotation...
