Pros

• P/F with internal rankings
• lots of home residencies in many specialties including strong residency programs in ophthalmology and ortho
• very established w/ large alumni network
• area seemed nice on interview day
• stronger match list

Cons

• large class size
• have heard that research can be more difficult to find
• higher COL than phoenix
• 6 hour flight from home

Creighton
Pros

• From Norcal somewhat close to home, long term partner (in socal), family, friends
• Nice area
• Urban
• associated hospitals nearby
• Friday exam/quizzes
• close to large research schools like Mayo Clinic AZ

Cons

• lack of home residencies (derm, ENT, etc.)
• H/P/F
• lack of research at school (although Mayo Clinic and UofArizona are close by)
• very new for M1, M2
• in house exams

Summary: Not set on specialty yet, though I do want an option on pursuing a competitive specialty (ex: Derm) and hope to end up back in CA for residency. Do the opportunities at Jefferson outweigh proximity to potential residency programs in California and support system? Is having Mayo Clinic nearby to do research as effective as doing research with a home residency in Jefferson?

If NBME and research are important to you, go Jefferson. If you could tolerate the lack of research and in house exams, defintely go Creighton Pheonix.

Jefferson unless financial aid dictates that one school will be significantly cheaper than the other.

FYI skmc is also in house exams. either way would still lean SKMC here due to home residencies and more research opportunities. many of the pros you listed for Creighton are also pros of SKMC and more- philly is a hub of many institutions and skmc is situation right in the heart of center city super urban, etc. Just up to you whether the proximity to your support system outweighs these things, but either way you’re a flight away

Hey sorry for the super late reply and thank you for your response. Currently WL at USF, Rochester, SLU. Would consider more heavily between USF and SKMC
