I'm pretty sure the White House petitions are completely meaningless. I've signed a couple and what happens when it gets the required number of signatures is they send you a form email along the lines of "We recognize that this issue is very important to many people, and we care about it a lot, but we will do nothing about it."

Also note the number of completely ridiculous or legit joke petitions that are getting the most signatures. "Allow Texas to secede from the union", "Impeach Obama", "Commence construction of a Death Star by 2016", etc.

But whatever, I'll sign it anyway...

Apparently they do read some of them. There was a petition to have december 24th as a federal holiday this year, and it happened.

From what I understand if 25,000 signatures are on the petition by the deadline Obama will have to look at it (meaning he may consider it). If I'm not mistaken I believe last years Surgeon General's Report outlined the positive impact pharmacists had with an expanded scope and more intervention. Eventually I do think pharmacists will achieve provider status.

There are some Medicare Part D medication plans that are so-called PREFERRED plans that either present contracts to small independent stores that are so bad we can't afford to accept them (i.e. we would get mostly negative profits for prescriptions filled) or we are not offered a contract at all. This is creating a completely unfair business environment that stacks the deck in favor of large corporate pharmacies. The real injustice is forcing our patients who prefer the service of the small independent to go to the larger impersonal chains or to mail order. They also reimburse the PREFERRED pharmacy at much higher rates than small independents. This is not a 'Free' Market that in any way helps supports small business. All we as Independent Pharmacies want is a fair level playing field!

Merging this with relevant thread.

It did happen but I guess the USPS got the memo by snail mail because they were out delivering that day!

Let's do this, my whole class just signed it. Apparently it obtained the attention of our faculty and they are pushing it at my school. Let just reach 25000 signatures first and whatever happens happens. What is important is that we are uniting as a profession.

Well there are certainly enough pharmacy schools now that if every student signed it, we'd be good :meanie:
