I just printed out my VMCAS application, and I noticed that the spaces I'd placed between paragraphs were completely gone. Is there a way to preserve paragraphing in the personal statement box? Thanks!

Note that the "printer friendly" version of your personal statement will not display paragraph indentations or character returns. However, the copy received by your selected colleges will display proper formatting such as paragraph indents and character returns.

^ From VMCAS website. Hope that helps

Somewhat related to this:
I'm completely tight on my character limit on what is probably my final draft, at 4996 with returns between paragraphs but no space indentations at all at the beginning of each paragraph, as to save characters (with 5 paragraphs, this would push me over the limit just a bit). Is it okay to not have a few spaces to indent each paragraph, or should I search for another word to get rid of and work in the indents with 2 or 3 spaces per paragraph? Oh, technicalities..

I'm in the same boat - my PS is getting ridiculously close to the limit....

of course - I haven't even written a concluding paragraph so that's a WHOLE different story! 😉😛

I'm going to do submit mine without indentations. I just did two returns in between paragraphs to leave a line empty. I think that's fine and the returns don't count as characters.

Hint for anyone who like me who was taught to put two spaces after the period at the end of a sentence. Put your PS back into your preferred word processing program, tell it to find (ctrl-F for PC people), put your cursor in the "find" box and hit the spacebar twice, put the cursor in the "replace with" box and hit the space bar once, tell it to go find and replace, and voila! You have now gotten rid of all of the double spaces. I think I got an extra 30 some characters out of that once someone told me you could do find and replace with just blank spaces.

Yup. I much prefer to have things I type up have two spaces between sentences, but those extra characters are way too important. Especially, since I am already over the limit!
