So, I was the OP of the thread that got really carried away and deviated off topic, titled "Does it matter what school you graduated from?" Now, I was never trying to belittle anyone or the university they come from, so if I offended anyone in anyway, I'm sorry. I will still stand by my conviction that it should matter what university a student graduated from, but none of us really know this for a fact, and it differs from d-school to d-school but, ultimately it doesn't even matter at this point of the application cycle for most of us. Once again, I never meant to hurt anyone's feelings, I just got carried away just as others did on the thread.

Relevant Question: My 40 yr old uncle will be done with his pre-reqs for d-school next year and will probably be applying to d-schools (Loma Linda is where he really wants to go) for the starting class of 2011 or 2012. Now the problem is, is that since he has a family to provide for and already has a commercial empire to take care of, he did his studies very slowly. He took his first Bio classes and such in 2003. Most dental schools, like Loma Linda, say that you must have finished all pre-reqs within 5 years of when you apply. When he applies, it will be like 8 or 9 yrs since he's taken those classes. Has anyone encountered this problem? Any suggestions for him? Is Loma Linda very strct about that policy? Thanks

Taking the pre reqs again will only help him in studying for the DAT.

the adcoms are going to care more about the fact that he took his pre-req's so slowly. d-schools want to see applicants handle heavy course loads with some degree of sucess.

you can't take 2 classes at a time in dental school. you take 28 credits a semester.

He has a commercial empire and now wants to become a dentist by the time he turns 46-47? BTW, anyone who calls 70% of the students at Berkeley "douche-bags" IS an idiot so no need to apologize for that.

I'm not apologizing to 12345a...whom ever that is, he/she is an idiot...but to all the rest, I didn't want them to misunderstand me, or think that I was trying to ridicule their achievements or schools. As for my uncle, he's very well off and doesn't need anymore money, but it has always been his dream to become a dentist. He immigrated to this country when he was 15 yrs old and started working instantly, so he couldn't finish school here because he needed to start making money. But now, he's been attending UCR and is doing pretty damn well considering his background, so I really respect him for that. So, hopefully adcoms will cut him some slack if he does really well on the DAT.
