TIMING IS EVERYTHING WITH DUBSTEP.

Skrillex makes deadmau5

LOOK LIKE A LITTLE LOST GIRL AT THE DJ STATION.

They aren't even considered the same subgenre within electronic music...

Skrillex sounds either like Transformers having sex or like my dial up modem circa 1996

hilarious comments. agreed, skrillex is annoying and everything sounds the same. also agree that they are completely different genres, deadmau5 is not a dubstep artist. apples and oranges.

I prefer Knife Party. Never heard of deadmau5.

While I find it kind of cool that our man Jet keeps his ear to the new age I can't agree with the dub step movement at all. Reminds me of the techno craze. I'm actually sad that lyricism has become an afterthought and is actually a dying art.

HAVE YOU EVER

PERSONALLY

BEEN TO A

RAVE?

I have.

Many.

SOUTH BEACH

is where I grew up.

That still does not mean all raves are the same. Electronic music has a multitude of subgenres which deadmau5 and Skrillex do not share. Trip Hop, Hard House, Dub Step (UK origin) and its American bretheren, Brostep are all very different. People on the producing end of this music would attest to this.

I'm going to have to disagree and then agree with Jet.

Disagree: I'm pretty sure they are different subgenres, based on the sheer enormity/complexity of the following list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_electronic_music_genres and my college friend's non-step electronic music Facebook posts. Though I will be the first to admit I'm no expert.

Agree: I kind of like Skrillex, and think he falls victim to the "So Popular It Becomes Cooler to Hate" label. As a relative outsider, I find his stuff pretty catchy. Especially the album with Korn, which gets a decent amount of play in my workout rotation.

Jet, I agree with and respect most of what you say around here (in whatever font you so desire), but you're just way off the reservation on this one. I have been an avid listener of electronic/techno/trance/house music for nearly 15 years. My brother DJs at clubs regularly and produces his own tracks that have been played by folks like Armin van Buuren and Laidback Luke, among others.

Skrillex and Deadmau5 are not the same subgenre.

Deadmau5 is a masterful producer and probably one of the best. His technical knowledge of music production is second to none. But as a DJ, he sucks. He just has no flow to his sets. I have seen masses of people leave his stage at festivals.

With regards to Skrillex, and dubstep in general, I'm just not a fan. I have no doubt he's a talented producer and DJ, but it's just not for me. I don't understand it and feel it kills my high.

ERIC PRYDZ is my favorite right now. I suggest you download his BBC Radio 1 Essential Mixes... he really knows how to put a set together and take you on a journey. His show at Roseland Ballroom in NYC last Thanksgiving was one of the best sets I've ever heard. I recommend everyone go see him at least once (at a proper 3-4 hour show, not one of these short one hour sets you find at festivals).

P.S. Jet -- I have no clue how old you are, but no one calls it a "rave" anymore (or ever did)... especially on South Beach

Check out these two radio shows - not dubstep but epic, nonetheless:

Armin van Buuren's 'A State of Trance' and Above and Beyond's 'Trance Around the World'

Definitely not the same sub genres of electronic music.

I've been on a John O'callaghan kick lately. Check out his podcasts.

Okokokok....two different genres. My bad. Skrillex definitely produces endorphins in me...that's what I know.

Eric Prydz? I'll check him out!!!

Eric Prydz version of "Call on Me" will play at every gay bar at some point every night.

Not a judgement, just an observation.

And gay bars are fun to go to whether you're gay OR straight.

I like this pyrdz video for its eloquence

I lov skrillex but its only me music. Can't play it in the OR, can't play it with my wife in the car. Deadmou5 I can play in most situations. Check out Nero, crystal castles, crystal method, ghost land observatory, groove armada, kaskade, feed me, and Swedish house mafia. If u have any suggestions put them up. I lov music and am always looking for new stuff. Also check out Lindsey striling too. As far as semantics dub step, electronic, wtfc?i know what u meant

Skrillex is technically not even Dubstep although that's the genre he's been placed into by American media. The style of music he plays is Complextro. Before I started getting more into the depths of dubstep, I used to like Skrillex too. Thus, I will not criticize.

For better 'mainstream' dubstep, Check out Nero.

why cant this thread be at the lounge. IT has nothing to do with anesthesia..

Jet, STOP typing in large letters and take your music thread to a general forum. THANKS.
AND
AND
AND........................................................................

We KNOW you are trying to be cool by coming on here and talking DUBSTEP and going to raves.........

Our fourm is, was, and will remain free for all reasonable topics, BECAUSE WE WANT IT TO BE THAT WAY. Just put Jet on ignore and his big fonts will stop
HAUNTING YOUR DREAMS.

BTW Jet, I didn't know you were a fan of this stuff. I was going to go to a big (thousands) NYC over the top party last month in a big airline hanger, but I didn't feel like making a suitable costume and making the trip. The theme was trans dimensional funk, or something like that. I had some fun costume plans. Next time I'm get you an invite. We can crash with one of my over compensated finance buddies.👍

Seeing how I've been here 10+years and you've been here 10 days, I think I can say you can stfu and go sit in the lounge. Anesthesia doesn't need tight sphincter a holes like u. You sure you shouldn't be in psych or path?

The font changes bug the $hit outta me too, but it's JPP and THIS IS THE ANESTHESIA FORUM (think, this is Sparta).

We have our own culture and JPP's tic and our "off topic" threads are a key part of why this is The Most Successful Subforum on SDN.

The music threads are awesome (second only to the gun threads).

This forum is a lot like a day in the OR. We don't sit around mentally masturbating about the minutiae of anesthesia all day long in the OR or on this forum

Peace Out

-pod

FWIW- my 7-year-old listens to Deadmau5.

Nah. We don't want him. Try path.

JetSkrillex and Deadmau5 are not the same subgenre.

Maybe he was thinking that because of the gorestep drop in "Raise Your Weapon" which is a fairly atypical song for Deadmau5 but certainly reminds me of some of Skrillex's work?
