The last thread caught me by surprise. In my shop, its very common for anesthesia providers to sleep during cases. In fact, I have been at my shop for close to 30 years, and regularly have slept during cases for the past 10 or so. If the patient can sleep, why cant i?

I have a set of guidelines I give to the young spring chicken nurses to wake me up.

1. If patient moves, i should be moving too
2. If too number on blood pressure reads a number less than 50, wake me up. I dont care about bottom one so i dont have guidelines.
3. If the surgeon is finished with surgery.
4. If sat level monitor is less than 75
5. If heart rate less than 25 or looks funny in shape or how wide it is

Haven't had any trouble. You all need to relax and let that boy get some rest during his long cases in the middle of the night.

This is a physician forum, not a nursing forum.

I set my alarm for 30 sec snoozes. So I can catch up on those micro-sleeps
