Hi,

I'm interested in doing a dual certification in audiology and speech-language pathology. I know they are different career, but they are similar and I think it would open up more opportunities in the future (ex. like starting a speech-hearing clinic etc.).

Do AuD programs accept students who have completed an MSc-SLP? Or is it strictly for post-bachelorate students?

Audiology programs welcome students from various backgrounds, esp. Speech Pathology. Becoming dually-certified isn't too common now as it was 20+ years ago b/c the graduate curriculum is vastly different. I am a Speech Pathologist applying to Audiology programs for Fall 2009. Please understand that none of your graduate courses will count toward your Audiology degree, so it will be four long, trying years!

If your long term interest is opening a clinic, have you considered pursuing a Ph.D in Speech? Your research could combine both fields! After weighing your options, if you're still considering the Au.D, go for it! It's doesn't hurt being dually-certified, in fact, it'll be very impressive as it takes dedication and love (for the fields) to do it. ;) Good Luck to you!
