I got an invitation to a regional interview with Saint Louis University today and was wondering if anybody had any experience with this from SLU or a regional interview from another school? Is it a downgrade from being asked to visit the campus or what? Any thoughts or comments?

I got one from SLU, and I was accepted there. So, it's definitely not a downgrade, it's just more convenient for both sides. Good luck.

I recently got one too. Seems like a good deal. Don't have to pay that much to fly to St. Louis!

I got a regional invite as well today...I'm just curious though, since it is a regional interview, do we not get the info sessions about the school, financial aid, admissions process, etc? Are we supposed to just ask our interviewer? How else are we supposed to find out about the school besides the website?

Also, does the school place a big emphasis on religion in the interview, in the classroom, and the hospitals where students will do their rotations third year?

Religion? I think for all the catholic schools, that is like the most commonly asked question. You don't see it and there is no pressure. If you like the resource of spirituatlity in any religion, then it is certainly there for you if you need it. But overall, things function like they would at any hospital.

Stem cells and abortion? I don't think those are a huge part of any medical school training. Stem cells is controversial anywhere and abortion is something you may see as a resident in your field elsewhere if even that.

Do you know who the interviewer will be? It said in my invitation letter.

I got into slu. I had a regional interview at a hotel. It was nice. Did anyone visit the campus and see the school first hand? What was it like? 😕

SLU is an excellent school, but the school fails to showcase its strengths at the interview. I interviewed there two weeks ago and my experience was at best average. At my interview, there were no formal introduction, no information session about the school, no financial aid presentation. I did not know that SLU participates in need-based FA until I searched online (through needbase.com, not SLU website). The tour was given by one 4th year student, and there were more than 15 applicants in my tour group. Overall, I didn't feel like I was wanted there. I came out of the interview not knowing what SLU is really about.

I was very disappointed. SLU was one of the few schools that I wanted to check out because I've heard good things about the school. Too bad the school didn't do a better job showcasing these strengths at the interview. I wish SLU accepts and invites me to a second-look weekend. I am still very interested in the school and really hope I could have a chance to check it out again.

BTW...if you have not checked out SLU, you should definitely do it before you matriculate. Some applicants I talked to love the environment, while others absolutely hate it.
