I know that there has been a little movement from the Saint Louis University waitlist, but I was wondering if anyone has heard anything lately? Thanks.

Hey Dr. Nick - Sorry didn't know they would allow this when I registered...I PMEd you.

I called SLU today to see when they would be done interviewing and how interviewing this late would effect waitlist movement. They said that will be interviewing until June 11th, but they have also already begun to pull people from the waitlist. So this may be good news for those of you that are waiting for SLU (if there is anyone else out there)!

thanks lloyd. That's encouraging news for me. I've been on the WL for a long time. I interviewed in November, you? Let me know if you hear anything else.

Best of luck! :)

I interviewed at SLU at the end of February and was waitlisted in mid-March. I will let you all know if/when I hear anything from SLU. I am getting really anxious becuase I have not been accepted anywhere, but I have two waitlists. I hate this waiting and uncertainty, but I will get along...

I just got a waitlist letter today from SLU. It says in the letter that it is a ranked waitlist, but does not say what my rank is. Does anyone know if they give out that info if I were to call? It would be nice to have an idea.. I know that some schools let you know if you're in the top third, middle third etc. I don't want to call and annoy them however!

labrat - They will not let you know where you stand in the rankings, I have asked them that as well. And this does not change after May 15th either; you are never able to find out where you are ranked. Just keep them updated with any new grades, etc. Good luck!

What did you think of SLU? Would you go there if taken off the alternate list?

labrat-I can confirm that SLU will not tell you your rank.

Lloyd-i'm in the same boat as you. I have two other WL's (NYMC and U Cinci) and no acceptances. I really can't be picky and would go to SLU if they were the only school to accept me. However, if I were to rank my enthusiasm for the three schools, SLU is at the bottom of my list. And it's not so much related to the school itself, but the location. I can't explain why but what I saw of St. Louis was just way too quiet and lonely-feeling for me.

my two cents...

Man, I thought St. Louis was not that bad of a city. I am from Minneapolis and it is a little smaller than St. Louis. I think that there would be plenty to do, etc. Granted, it is no NY (where you are from??), but I think it would be a decent place to live in for four years. Especially because the college that I am at now is literally mixed in with some fields and is out in the middle of no where.

Maybe it was just my experience. I wouldn't say I need to have the big-city hustle & bustle atmosphere, just friendliness and a few stores/restaurants/bars.... I probably got the sense that the place was deserted bc most students had left early for thanksgiving break. Hey, that makes a lot of sense. It gives me a new perspective on the place, thanks lloyd! :D

btw, I'm originally from california.

Hey Guys,

Just to let you guys know, the waitlist is moving. I received a letter dated APRIL 18, 2002 stating I had been placed on a ranked alternated list and in addition they emphasized "I was chosen as an alternate over numerous able competitors". I took that as a suttle hint they wanted to accept me, but weren't sure if I was still interested... (though it may actually be on every waitlist letter and I was reading too much into it...)

Anyway, I sent a reply the day I got the waitlist letter expressing my "continued strong interest in the school" (without making an airtight commitment) along with a recent transcript. I mailed this out APRIL 23,2002; it probably reached SLU in 2-3 days. Then last Friday, I got an acceptance letter dated APRIL 26, 2002.

I guess the bottom line is make SURE that SLU knows you are still interested... For some reason the school has acquired a reputation as an average-below average med school (though I dont know why as I was throughly impressed by the school) and the school seems to mask acceptances with alternate list letters first so their acceptance/enroll ratio continues to remain respectable. [NOTE this is all my personal theory... I could be totally wrong]

I wish all those on the SLU waitlist the BEST of LUCK!!!

SauravDhakhwa,
That is incredible news, that you were accepted days after you received the waitlist letter. I have been waiting anxiously for any correspondence from SLU and received the same letter that you got, just today (dated May 2nd). I'm curious as to when you interviewed? I interviewed on April 2nd and thought that I probably wouldn't hear from them for at least two months, given that they will be interviewing through June.

Thanks for the heads up SauravDhakhwa. I sent in an update letter about a week ago or so and have yet to hear anything back, but I'm sure our situations are different. But you have given me some hope... Thanks

Wow!! Congrats to all who have gotten off the waitlist!

I was wondering if you guys would mind posting your stats? I am also on that wl. I interviewed in Dec and heard in Feb..I called them up last friday and the really nice person who picked up the phone said that I had a "fairly decent" chance of getting off. That does give me hope..but it stinks not knowing exactly where you are..

Anyhow...if you guys (who were pulled off) could post your stats..it would be helpful to people still waiting.

Thanks!

maple how did you get them to even tell you your chances? the prime objective of the lady i spoke to was to get me to hang up w/o revealing any information.

I have had the same experience as Hero did. I have not been able to get any information about my "chances" from the admissions office. I know that there are at least two people in the office that answer the phones, so maybe it depends on who you ask and how you ask it.
I cannot stand this waiting, it would be great to finally find something out after all of these months.

I just withdrew my SLU acceptance today, so perhaps somebody will be getting some good news soon.

Hey all,

I previously posted about getting off the waitlist at SLU, but I basically got the same waitlist letter as SauravDhakhwa where it seemed like I was ranked high. I got accepted within maybe 2 weeks of my waitlist letter after I sent in an update letter expressing my interest. I don't think stats matter too much in this whole process, but b/c somebody asked for them, here they are: 3.78/30P with pretty moderate EC's.

Also, is it true that SLU has an "average-below average" reputation? I guess I've never heard enough about the school to know, but I was just wondering what everybody else thought. I don't think reputation has that HUGE of a factor in acquiring residiencies anyways, so I'm still considering taking SLU over Albany. Tell me what you guys think!

My waitlist letter also stated about being selected over numerous able competitors or some such language. I think maybe all the waitlist letters say that, but maybe not. Anyone get one different? It does give me hope though... I don't really have anything to update my file with though, so I don't know if another letter stating interest would help my case or not. I sent a Thank you to my interviewer a week after my interview. I definitely want to go to SLU.. Please God, let me get in!

Lloyd Xmas, I read on another thread that you are also waitlisted at Creighton? True? If not, sorry about the mistaken identity. Because I'm just wondering would you pick Creighton over SLU if given a choice. BTW, I withdrew from SLU.

Here you go guys. Here's the matchlist for SLU for this year, 2002. Enjoy.

wyldstyle, hooking us up again. Thanks bro. Did you check the Laker game out last night. Ouch. Horry had more rebounds than Shaq. They better get their act together before they face the run-n-gun Mavs. peace

cong,
Yeah I am waitlisted at Creighton too. I would really like to go to both schools, but being that I am on the waitlist, it is not my decision to make. I will go wherever I am accpeted. The chances are against me getting pulled from both waitlists (the only two that I am on). I had very good expereinces at both Creighton and SLU.
Where did you decide to go, if I may ask?

I'm trying to send in a withdrawal letter to slu but their website is down so I can't get their admissions phone # or the address. If anyone has the admissions office address and their phone #, could you please post it as soon as possible? Thanks.

Here you go glacierdropsy: I took these right off my letter from SLU

Hope this helps. If you don't mind me asking, where have you decided to go?

Thank you Lloyd I love you! I think I'm going to George Washington. But I have some other waitlists to hear from. Good luck to everyone on this thread!!!

Hey Lloyd,
I've just very reluctantly sent in my withdrawal letter to Creighton  and decided to go to UC San Diego. Good luck to you! :) The reason I asked is because I'm just wondering whether you have the same positive experience I had at Creighton. The welcome, warmth, family atmosphere at Creighton was just incredible, hence my decline came with very much reluctance :( I just didnt feel that at SLU. Anyhow, good luck to you at both SLU and Creighton. Hopefully, you get my Creighton spot because I declined SLU long time ago.

Thanks cong! I actually had a great experience at both Creighton and SLU, but I think that the poeple were a little more welcoming at Creighton. However, I think I like St. Louis the city better than Omaha. Of course there are a lot more things that distinguish the schools, but overall, I really liked them both. I would be happy to attend either Creighton or SLU - man do I just want to get in someplace!! Thakns for your encouragement and good luck at UCSD!! :)

hi! i am actually going to interview at SLU may 28th. i was told they were interviewing all the way through mid june. Does any one have any suggestions?
good luck with the waitlist :)

Amma,
Just a suggestion: if you are coming in from out of town try to stay at the Watertower Inn. It is a hotel right on campus run by the uiversity and it is only - blocks from the med school. If you call the admissions office, they will give you the phone number.

Also, relax, be yourelf, and make it fun. I enjoyed the interview, the campus, the people and the city.

Where else have you interviewed?

Weather's been great lately so that shouldn't be a problem. Hmm..be sure to check out the undergrad main campus while your at it, its quite pretty w/the historic mansion, streams, water fountains in the main area by the law library and business school. :)

Although the med campus is down the street, you may spend considerable time on the main campus studying or using the Simon Rec Center. I like the law library or quad. The Billiken Shuttle runs back and forth from the med school, the Water Tower Inn, and undergrad campus. Check it out.

thank you again for your posts.

thank you again for your posts.•••••Amma - The Watertower Inn is right near the medical school and the hospital. I can't tell you much about public trans. as I flew in and rented a car, but driving seemed to be decent (without a lot of traffic and nice roads). Also, if you stay at the Watertower, make sure to tell them that you are there for an interview at the medical school - becuase they will give you a discounted rate.

I did not get a chance to see much of the city, but I have been there before. It has its good parts and its bad parts like any other big city.

If you have any other questions, let us know...

I know you will do great and kick some interview butt!

Hi everyone, I received a second letter this weekend which said, "as you know...you have been selected to the alternate list and that they do not disclose info about rank... blah blah blah." But enclosed is a form for me to fill out to express my continued interest in the school (check Yes or No) and new telephone contact information. I'm going to send it in asap, but am wondering if you all received this second letter too.

I interviewed in Nov 2001, got placed on the alternate list in January (I think) and sent a letter of interest afterward. This might be their way of increasing their ratio of matriculants vs. acceptances offered.

I got this same letter Saturday as well. At first I was a little confused with it, but I came to the same conclusion that you did. I am going to send it right now. I interviewed in Feb. and was waitlisted in March. I have also sent in a couple of update letters.

Did everyone on the wailist get this letter???

I didn't receive a second letter. (I guess not yet)

hero,
I sent my letter of interest in March so they might want to know if I am STILL interested, but now I'm worried if they recd it or not. I don't know if I added "delivery confirmation" to that letter. Uggh!

But it looks like they send it despite interest letters since Lloyd sent multiple update and interest letters.

Hero: I got the same letter and I recently sent in a letter of interest and I know they got it becuase I called to make sure that it was included in my file. This is only my personal expereince, I am not sure what happened with applehead...

I am pretty confused with this letter as well.

I know this doesnt answer your question, "Did I get in?" but it might be helpful info. SLU was one of the schools that AMCAS really messed up. They were initially one of the few schools that could not receive AMCAS applications because of an AMCAS glitch. That problem has put them 3 months behind where they would normally be in the reviewing and selection process. This would probably account for your continued interest letter being misplaced. Also, being so far behind in the acceptance process they might be anticipating a higher that normal declination rate so they are continually montitoring the waitlist so they can get acceptances out to people who actually want to go there. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. HPSP

Just out of curiosity, did anyone else recieve this letter we have been talking about here?

I received the same letter today. Which leaves me still w-a-i-t-i-n-g and hoping and hoping and waiting!

I got the same update letter on Friday of last week. Just curious if any of you guys might know how deep this waitlist runs, ie. do they simply place everyone post-interview on it or are they maybe a little more exclusive. peace

I'm from cali as well. But I still have not received that letter. I'll wait another day before calling them I guess. :T

I am not sure about the actual size of the waitlist, but I do know that they tend to pull a lot of poeple off the list (more than 20). But things may be different this year becuase they are interviewing until June. But I know that there have been several people that have been pulled off the list already, so who knows...

Hmmm....I haven't gotten that 2nd letter either..I am from Cali too..I guess I should give them a call too.
