SMAC is a term that has persisted even though the grouping of labs has become a relatively less profitable thing to do. Many hospitals call their SMAC different things, and include different labs. Most SMACS include:
BUN
Creatinine
Sodium
Potassium
Chloride
AST
ALT
Alk Phosp
Bilirubin
CO2
Some exclude ALT, while some include Mg and serum globulin levels. Some include lipids, and some don't. Its more of a nursing issue, and something that doesn't take long to learn in any given institution.
