How normal we are is open to debate, but in the US, median salaries for veterinarians in private practice in 2005:

Large animal exclusive $106,901
Large animal predominant 94,288
Mixed animal 90,960
Small animal exclusive 107,071
Small animal predominant 105,499
Equine 128,302

It makes up for the first few years in equine practice making $20k less than your SA classmates...

The most profitable specialties (as far as one specific species is concerned) are actually poultry and swine.

Wasn't there a pretty recent article in DVM Magazine (or something similar, I don't recall) talking about the different salaries if you are a boarded specialist?

Would love to read that article if anyone has a link. Out of pure curiosity I've tried looking up averages for private practice specialists to no avail. It doesn't make any difference, and there is probably a HUGE range... but it'd be interesting to know.

Yes there was an article about the salaries of boarded specialists, I believe we actually had a thread about it too. I would like to see a similiar listing of species specific salaries.

Interesting, because it is worst payed job in here. But I am
sure
that there is a huge different
between
poultry/swine specialist in US and Serbia.
