Hi, i'm going to UVA this summer as well 🙂
 
I am pretty excited. I'm from Kentucky so I'm used to a rural area but I have friends that live within an hour of Charlottesville and they say its fabulous.

does anyone know if going to a certain site improves chances for med school at that site or is just being an SMDEP scholar improve for all SMDEP sites
 
Hey everyone! I participated at the Yale program in the summer of 2009. If you guys have any questions, don't hesitate to pm me! I'll try and answer some questions on here (if I can remember) because it's around that time everyone's absolutely anxious to get in! 😱

Let me just say this, though: For those of you that are still waiting for an answer and have been waiting for a while, call the site. Many of the acceptances at a number of the sites I applied to had my acceptance sitting in their little office but didn't bother calling me until I almost ran out of time to choose my final site.

I know that at UW you get an automatic secondary if you attended SMDEP there. I'm not sure if this is the case for all sites.

Well..it depends on how good your application is..and submit it as soon as you can, because even though they don't release admission information until april 1st for you guys, they still accept or reject way before that date. Like my application was completed on 12/16, and I was accepted at a site on 12/20..but of course we didn't find out until feb 16th.

OK....so after getting accepted to Duke and CAse Western I confirmed to Duke Uni....I checked my page again this is what was said by Howard..

Howard - Withdrawn before acceptance 02/17 9 :45 am

Did Howard eventually accept me after posting not accepted on Feb. 16, I am confused although it really doesn't matter since Duke was my first choice....But really what is the meaning of withdrawn before acceptance.......? 😕

Same thing happend to me. I didn't care either because I got into my top choice

It's a secondary application that's specific to the school you apply to. Once the school gets your primary, they'll decide whether or not to offer you a secondary. It's kind of like the first notification that they're interested in you, but they obviously want to know more about you.

I've read that SMDEP alumnus receive similar consideration to those that are residents of nearby states that do not have medical schools. In other words, you can apply to UW as an SMDEP alumni even if you're not a resident of Washington state. You must usually be a resident of Washington or nearby states in order to apply to UW.

Has anyone received confirmation or any info from their confirmed sites? I emailed mine yesterday and I'm currently awaiting a reply back.

Hey, I was wondering about the deadline. It says that we have to have our recs and transcripts submitted by March 1st. But I've heard that our application has to actually be completed and processed by March 1st. I know it takes some time to process the documents, so if my guy was to send in his recommendation on like, Feb 28th, will my application be considered late?

get your recommendation faxed in to their office

So it needs to be processed and completed by March 1st?
 
Completed means your application must be submitted and your transcripts received at the NPO, regardless of when you sent them, by Mar 1.

My application was completed before my LORs were received so I think your application will be completed without a LOR as long as your application and transcripts are in.

You can always send in your transcripts and LORs before you submit your application. I sent in my transcripts on Jan. 22 and it was received and approved on Jan 29th but sometimes it takes longer than that. My LORs were faxed. Good luck.

Ok so i called UCLA the stipend is $400. Then called Washington stipend is $350 and Nebraska the stipend is $1000!!!!
