So...I've been reading up on how SMPs are considered and when it is suggested to complete an SMP. I'm kind of in the middle--I have a cGPA of 3.4 and sGPA of 3.3 with a 28M (8, 10, 10). I don't care MD/DO but I am geographically limited due to my family.

I have my application in to my state MD school (LA) but haven't heard anything yet. I'm not applying any further because my husband is what supports us and there isn't any way for us to move without him having a job before hand. We might have the opportunity to move to DFW soon so those may be an option if I don't get in to LSU this year.

My stats are average for LSU and TCOM which are the schools that I'm most likely to be admitted to. I can do a masters if that would help my admissions chances. I have 180+ undergraduate hours so more UG classes really won't help me if it's just a gpa issue.

What do y'all think?

Re-take the MCAT; I don't think a 28 is not average at any US MD school. Nor is a 3.4 cGPA.... I'm not sure where you are getting your stats from. You are about 1 std dev below average in terms of cGPA and MCAT

I agree; retake the MCAT and get a score that will make your state's public schools take you seriously. Do the work to figure out what the average MCAT is for LA schools...and then get better than that average.

Best of luck to you.
