Has anyone gotten in with a low uGPA and a high SMP gpa? Would you recommend doing an SMP with a 3.0 undergraduate GPA? I have taken close to 120 credit units and it will take a few years for my GPA to bump up to around 3.4. Any suggestions?
Thank you

SMP or Masters or any other postbacc program is the only way to go. Tons of threads on this. Short answer for your question, yes.

Pretty much yes. I had a 2.9 undergrad gpa and did a masters in biomedical science for 1.5 years at Rowan GSBS/SOM, ended up with a 3.5 graduate gpa. I got an interview last cycle at Tufts but got waitlisted though. Private schools focus a lot more on your graduate gpa if you show significant improvement from your undergrad with 20+ DAT scores as well. I hope this helps.

Yes definitely do an SMP. That way adcom has a new GPA to look at and compare the uGPA to. Your aadsas calculated GPA may not move as much as you'd like it to, but it will be better. This is the fastest way to look more competitive to dental schools in your situation., rather than doing more undergrad work which could take foreverrrrrr.

For example i had a terrible uGPA of 2.76. Took some science courses to bring it up, but it only went up to a 2.89 after two years, which was not much. Also it was hard trying to take any courses that I had not already taken as Bio Major. I had to challenge myself with upper-level grad courses to prove to adcoms and to myself that I could handle a rigorous program, for sure.

It was the Master's program that I personally chose and I completed it with a 3.9 GPA. It was NOT easy at all, i busted my ass off and studied 6-10 hours a day (usually), but it was all worth it. Finished in 1.5 years, but you can finish in a year if you want to. I have not been accepted yet since I just applied this cycle, but have a few interviews so far..and it def was bc of this program! 🙂 Good luck. PM me for any questions, I'd be happy to answer them.

Great job! How many do you have thus far?

You could just continue taking undergrad courses I suppose, but it will take a while (years) and you must take a full course load of upper level sciences in order to show schools that you can handle it all. I couldn't afford it either, but that's why I took out govt school loans that the program offers. I saw it as an investment and I was ready for the commitment!
