I'm scheduled to take Step 2 CS in Philadelphia tomorrow. I was going to drive up today. But, should I reconsider? What are the chances that this test actually proceeds and isn't cancelled?

I'm not eager to drive 5 hours, one way, and spend $200 on a hotel room, only to find out that my test is cancelled, and have to drive back out of a city that's completely snowed in. And there's certainly a chance that I would have to stay extra nights. Of course, there's also the chance that I stay home, the test proceeds, and I lose $1200.

What would you guys do? Anyone else in this position?

Assuming your car is up for the challenge, I would drive. Missing the test would cost a fortune.

Bring your sense of adventure. And some granola bars.

Is there a 1800 number you can call? Judging by how my part of Pennsylvania handles the snow I'm going to guess it will not be cancelled.

Yeah, I would definitely call them and ask what they are anticipating for the snow storm tomorrow. With public transportation and Philly being a major city there's a good chance they'll still be able to get the standardized patients there. This storm is supposed to be pretty rough though.

OTOH, my local hospital outpatient clinics are closed for the whole day tomorrow so I would definitely try to get confirmation from a person in the know before setting out.

Don't underestimate the ability of Philadelphia and the city's transportation infrastructure to break down when faced with potentially large snow totals. I would call and find out what policies are in place for situations like this.

CSEC posted that the tests will go on as scheduled despite the storm.

"Please be advised that a winter storm is forecast for the Philadelphia region that may make it more difficult than usual to access the Philadelphia Clinical Skills Evaluation Collaboration (CSEC) test centers on March 14 and 15, 2017. Test centers will, however, remain open and USMLE® Step 2 Clinical Skills (CS) examinations will take place as scheduled. Examinees are advised to exercise caution and allow themselves extra time when traveling to the test centers to ensure that they arrive safely and on time."

how did

how did it go? any courses you recommend?

gold review
kaplan
ximedus etc??
First Aid Step 2CS is amazing, especially the first half or so. Studying from that and working with someone else on the cases was enough for me and most friends i think.

OP hope everything went well and you're back home safe and sound!

Thank you all! It went well.

The real challenge was getting my car out of that mess. But it was OK, philly did a pretty good job with the roads.

I thought the test was a breeze. FA S2CS was the only resource I used.
Honestly single most helpful thing I did was probably my school's OSCE. Note that I took it very seriously (pretended it was the real thing) and even studied for it.
So when the real thing rolled around, I felt like I had done it before.

US AMG btw.
Good luck!

Good reason to own a subaru or other awd/4wd/4x4 car if you live in an area that sees a sizable amount of snow.
