My background:
- I'm a college senior graduating in May.
- I want to attend an SMP for 2009-2010 year.
- I want to apply for this upcoming 2009-2010 med school cycle.

The whole point of me doing an SMP is to let med schools know I can handle the coursework. If I apply to med school while i'm in the SMP, would they be able to see my SMP grades?

I'd be applying to med school in summer 2009, but SMP's usually start in August 2009, so how would those med schools know what my grades are if I haven't even completed any SMP courses?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!

Most (all?) SMPs will send your first semester grades to any schools you designate. I'd imagine they would have no problem sending even your test scores after your first few blocks of tests or whatnot as well.

Basically, the administration will do whatever they can to help you get into med school. (obviously, this is dependant on the program - some have better admins than others)

They won't, until you send them something. Which is why you should put your SMP classes into AMCAS as "planned" courses. Many schools will put off looking at your application (to determine if you'll get an interview) until after they receive your grades. But really, unless you go to an SMP with good linkage to their med school (like EVMS or UCinn), you will have a better chance at acceptance the year after your SMP, when schools have your SMP grades immediately. Just look at Georgetown SMPs' numbers. Their acceptance after 2 years numbers are way higher.
