Okay, so basically, I was just accepted at USUHS, the military med school, and I do want to go.

So then, I'm supposed to respond by May 15th or something and tell them that's the school I want to go to. How exactly do I do that? Do I specifically write back to them? I know that if I say "yes" to one school I can't say "yes" to another. How do the schools communicate? Is there like a central system (like AMCAS) for coordinating between schools for acceptances? Do I have to tell all my other schools that I want to drop my applications manually?

Anyways, thanks beforehand. I just want to make sure I don't do anything irrevocably stupid. Even better, if there's a preexisting thread about this information, please kindly point me to that, because, honestly, there's a mountain of threads and it's hard to search through all of them.

Usually there is a form to sign and give back, or something on the online status page that say's "I accept your acceptance".

The only thing you have to do really is withdraw from your other acceptances (via email is fine) by that 5/15 deadline that you mentioned.

Usually there is a 2-4 week window where you're expected to respond to an offer of acceptance and send in a $100 check to hold your spot. For USUHS, the MSAR says you have two weeks to respond, but that no deposit is required. You may hold as many acceptances as you wish for now, but must withdraw from all but one (getting the deposits back if applicable) by May 15. You may continue to hold your waitlist spots after May 15. If you get another acceptance off a waitlist, you have about two weeks to let one of the schools know you are withdrawing (both schools will have been informed about the other by AMCAS).

If this school is your first choice, and there is no chance of your getting a financial aid package from another school that would make it more attractive, then by all means, go ahead and drop the other schools now. Before doing so, I'd send a letter or otherwise acknowledge that the school knows you plan to attend, confirm your acceptance by phone so you know they received it, then drop the others.

You will get a letter in the mail (if you haven't already), that you will sign and send back. That's it. You don't need to tell them that you've chosen them from other acceptances, just withdraw from the others by May 15.

Also, since USUHS is a little different, if you have other questions, there's this thread:
http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=625445
where people can ask each other questions (there's even a few of us MS1/MS2s around to help answer them).

Congrats on the acceptance! 🙂

there probably won't be another financial aid package like the one at USUHS...unless it's free and you don't have to serve...

OP, congrats!!!!!

Call up the admissions office, tell them your name, and then tell them that you're going to Disneyland. They'll get the hint.

I just want to reiterate that you can accept as many acceptances as you would like up until May 15th, when you have to drop all but one (but can remain on waitlists).
