(although based solely on anecdotal evidence only) I was randomly clicking ppl's profiles and the GPA's seem sooooo much lower than us pre-meds! Does anyone know the average GPA for Dent. school acceptance??

GPA's are overrated. The PA matriculants from my undergrad had higher GPA than the medical school matriculants.

I find it interesting that Canada has higher averages than the US (3.76 v 3.55). I just assumed the US would me more competitive.

From what I have been told, Pre-Meds aren't at the top of the food chain. The average scores from Pre-Vets that get accepted is higher. Not cuz their job is harder or more important, just because there are so many fewer spots available.

I think it's because most people value the longevity of Tinkerbell over their grumpy old grandfather 😀

According to this website, which was updated in 09, the average accepted pre-vet GPA is 3.55.
The average GRE score is 81st percentile in VR and 77th in quantitative reasoning.

Average accepted MCAT is between 31 and 32, with a 31 being the 79th-84th percentile. Overall GPA was a 3.66 for matriculants in 2008.

So, assuming the MCAT and GRE are taken by the same distribution of students, getting into vet school is not harder, though one might debate how much easier it is.

I can't seem to find the percentage accepted to vet school, but I recall that it is about the same, if not a little higher, than med school. According to this yahoo answers page it is about 50%

Wikipedia and this advising site cites it at 46%, about the same for pre-med

Okay, I guess MD is still the hardest then. I was just told that several years ago by someone in healthcare and it seemed reasonable given the small number of schools and the many I know that did not get in. I know in my state that does not have a vet school it is harder because of the out of state status.

there is no way that GRE takers are on par with MCAT takers. GRE is a much broader pool.

You think ppl on the pre-med forum are being honest about what they're putting on their profiles?

yes. why would anyone lie on an anonymous forum where no one gives a crap?

We have very few spots available for Dentistry. This problem extends to Medicine as well. Both are supercompetitive.

It was an assumption that I was making so that I could make the argument that, even under that assumption, medical school was harder.

Using the knowledge I gained through college, I can use logical deduction to infer that they are thus stupider than we are. Do your self a favor and avoid those forums like the plague, hanging around "those" types are bound to bring you down.

I wouldn't say SOOOO much lower. The average for med vs. dent is basically a 3.6 vs. a 3.5, and both are increasing in competitive-ness. You can fancy yourself superior, but when you're working 80 hours a week with your finger up some stranger ass, your lower GPA-ed counterparts are making six figures working 4 days a week.

LOL so you make this observation on the pre-dent forum.. and to get ADDITIONAL information, instead of asking them, you ask US? LOL
