Please advise on how best to approach an attending I know at a program (mind you, this is someone whom I've known since I was a child and knows me fairly well, but I haven't spoken with him in a few years). He's at a fairly competitive program, and I'm an IMG. Should I call as soon as I submit my application? How would you handle this most gracefully/successfully at getting an interview/spot?

Thanks! -- Julie

My opinion would be to meet him personally and express your interest in the program, if you have not spoken to him in few years.
