hi all,

i'm a bit confused as to all the path books that are out there.😕

-big robbins
-baby robbins
-robbins and cortran pathologic basis of disease (2004)
-robbins review of pathology (2000)

1. should i buy big robbins if i already have baby robbins?
2. if i bought robbins review of pathology should i get the newer edition for the "clinical vignette" type of question?

i already have RR path and just wanted a good question based book because that's what a lot of people are recommending.

In my opinion you should just use goljan rapid review path and annotate it with stuff from your lectures that you think is important. I found robbins to be quite a chore to get through, so much so that i completely stopped using it. I still did very well in my pathology class and was very prepared for step 1, without torturing myself with that piece of poop. Thats just my opinion though, im sure others will swear by robbins.

Seconded. I also bought and tried to keep up with Robbins, but it was impossible to read that much material, plus the notesets we get with each lecture, plus review powerpoint slides and notes on top of that. There are only so many hours in a day, after all. If your school teaches a path course with powerpoints, notes, the whole shebang, there's probably no need for Robbins. If you don't get notes with your course, you may want a textbook.

I only read 3 or 4 chapters of Robbins before I gave up. I still used it as a reference once in a while if I needed a little (or a lot!) of extra info, but there's no reason you can't find a copy in the library for this purpose.

I loved RR path and followed along to some extent during 2nd year. For board prep it was one of the most valuable resources I used.

RR Path is great - I would recommend it anytime, best if used in second year when you are studying pathology. If there is something that you dont understand then refer to Big Robbins. Dr. G (Papi) is a great teacher.

Is this for your path course, or boards review?

pathologic basis of disease = big robbins

I understand that the newer Robbins Review is significantly improved from the first edition, but I haven't seen it personally.

RR path is literally worth it's weight in gold. for board review or for use in class.

you could get honors in class with decent class notes and RR path as your sole source. it's that good of a book.

robbin's is the bible and all, but it's just too dense.
