I am going through the Top Score exams, and so far 1 and 2 and the Gchem have some crazy time consuming calculations to do, its a breeze if we had a calculator but it feels like doing it all by hand a huge waste of time. Theres some I got completely wrong just because there was so much multiplying and dividing that, doing 1 problem alone may take me 3-4 mins by hand.

Is the DAT this calculation intensive? This literally feels like doing MATH.

usually the answer choices just show the set-ups with the numbers plugged in...you don't actually have to do the math to get a final answer.

There is math in chemistry... be prepared to do them when time comes.

But usually, you just have to set the questions up instead of solving them.

When I took the DAT some of the answer choices are setup like:

A. (598)(63)(2)/(435)(325)

B. (598)(2)/(63)(435)(325)

You actually do not really need to calculate the answer for some problems, you just need to know how to setup the equation, so that saves time a bit.

Also remember you can reduce and approximate.

Like if you have a number like 1.95 round this number to 2 to make the calculation easier. then you can approximate the answer.

Also if you have a calculculation like

(210)(75)/(70)

you can reduce this to

(3)(75)/(1)

makes the calculations much easier and less time consuming.

Good Luck

Practice doing the calculations. Figuring out how to do that math on paper and in your head will help with both GC and QR. You may not need to fully solve some questions, but you will need to be comfortable setting them up.
