Should I take some less-intense science classes to help it up a little? Does the AMCAS account ALL science classes or only the premed stuff? If it is the premed stuff, then Im screwed already 🙁 Generally speaking, what is a safe zone for your science GPA?
FYI: This is my 2nd semester in college and I have only taking bio 101 w/lab and currently taking bio 102 w/lab. I will be taking chem over the summer but I heard the grades do not get accounted into the gpa; only the credits transfer. So as a soph, I'll be taking physics and then as a junior o-chem or vice versa depending on class availability. Im not a science major; as you can see, I cant screw up on more than couple of classes or else my science gpa dies. (Well, its currently being mutated into small parts--but far away from approaching death).

1. AMCAS counts a lot of courses as 'science' - pretty much anything related to Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Math (thus, BCPM).

2. Depends on what schools you are applying to. Overall, you want around a 3.6 or better nationally, but remember that for a lot of schools a good MCAT score can make up for a slightly lower GPA. For specifics stats, again, it's going to depend on what schools you are going to apply to.

3. AMCAS has it's own method of determining GPA based on your grades and the credit hours - I honestly don't remember the specifics. I'm sure you can do a thread search to get more information.

AMCAS accounts for all science classes. Safe GPA? wtf is that... 4.0 is safe, anything less is relatively less safe.

What about computer science/engineering courses? Do they count as BCPM?

The majority of engineering courses do not count, but I'm not sure about computer science. To be safe, I'd say they don't count, either. You can find the actual course topic list from AMCAS...I just don't know the link.
