my test is in about 2 weeks...I've been studying so hard.....at least 5 hrs a day for the last 3 months...I have no problems with O chem...but my weakest points are the Bio and Gen chem....no matter what...I feel like info are running away from my mind ..I'm using Kaplan blue book and Barron's....but i stopped using barrons 'cause of the errors inside it ( i only use it for the PAT tips ).....I found this site http://www.dat-test.com/ in which it says that it will give u the secrets to score well on your DAT..did any 1 tried it??..i mean is it a scam...by the way..I scored so good on the Kaplan and Barron's tests , ...but when u guys say that Kaplan and Barrons questions have nothing to do with the real DAT...i feel worried !!...any suggestions??
thanx!!

If you don't have DAT achiever or Top Score, buy those. DAT secrets is all overly worded common knowledge. All the PAT tips are either in Barron's or just rediculously simple. There are some good strategies for reading comp., but I've seen most on SDN...Definately won't help you for Chem and Bio. It sounds like you've put your time in studying.....take some practice tests and I'm sure you'll be fine. :luck:

well..I have no problem with the PAT....just the bio and the gen chem...for example...it's like I study the materials...but when I try to recall what I've studied...my mind goes blank.....I'm getting a B+ 😀 on my Organic Chem class ...so I have no problem with the O chem... RC ...Its not easy but I can manage it......I just dont know how to study well for the bio and the gen chem..

It sounds like you have seen the hints from rc...would you mind sharing the best tips that you have seen? (eg. skipping to the questions vs taking notes throughout...) thanks!

...most people read the paragraph then go for the questions...i do it the other way around..that's what i do for the RC section...I read the questions 1st ( all of them )...understand what they ask about....then I go to read the paragraph...hunting for the answer...it depends on u...( hint : ..if u answered most of the questions on the paragraph but u stuck with 1 question...just dont waste your time on it....leave it to the end...when u done with most of the RC section..u can go back to every question u couldnt answer ...if u didnt know the answer and u were running out of time...just take a guess ...u might get lucky !!

They recomend lightly skimming the passage, but reading the first sentence in each paragraph. That way when you look for answers you'll know where to start. They have quite a few other little pointers too: if there are a pair of answers that are direct opposites, one of them will usually be right.
When asked for the way a word is used in a sentence, never assume it is the way the word is most commonly used.
It's not great advice, but it helps a little.

As for Biology, the best method will be to see which topics are your weakness. Once you know, you should get a Schaum's Biology book and try to study as much as you can. You should also take the practice test again since your score will improve.
General Chemistry will requiere you to do flash cards and do practice questions. You should follow the same pattern here. I think that Kaplan chem section is very detail. It will take you at most 4 days to go over chem section.
Good luck
Can you tell me what do you use to study for PAT? Thanks

i think this is starting to become a trend now where people get drunk and come on this forum to exhibit their drunkeness and make complete asses out of themselves, although i have to admit its pretty funny but at the same time it also seems kind of pathetic and sad. I would figure that if someone were so drunk that he/she cant type straight, that person would just piss themselves and pass out on their bed but i stand corrected. Cheers lifeisgood!! I salute you 👍

Hi

the advise posted on this form regarding this should be helpful but here is another thing to consider. 1. the books u currently use-do they present the material clearly to you so that you understand the concepts well. if not, then consider looking into some of the other books

but if the material is presented well and it makes sense to you. then try making your own outline/diagram. i did this for a few concepts for bio section. i felt like the ideas would slip out.... so i got a plain sheet of paper and made a diagram/chart/outline mixture so that i could see the main flow iwthout reading lots of text. it was pretty helpful. then, i tried memorizing this and not the text (ya just need the major ideas to stick in your head without confusion).

as for kaplan, if you are scoring well on kaplan...chances are you should be fine for the real thing. though, the math section is a bit easier in kaplan than the real test...i feel this way and so do several friends of mine. overall, i found topscore to be the most accurate to the real thing.

good luck

hi kaplan questions are pretty good question. but they are tougher then the real test. often, a kaplan question requires you to think/dig kind of deep into the question to be able to answer it, but the real test questions are not that complicated. ....uhmmm....to kind of relate this would be ...like... say in gen chem when the enthalpy/entropy/ gibbs energy questions come up...they often require you to work out the whole question but the real test would have parts of it already worked out so you have less work to do to be able to answer the question. hope this makes sense. if not you can ask me.
