Have you decided yet? I have, but I have yet to write emails to the other schools to let them know. I'm making my decision primarily on which school will be cheapest to attend. What is driving your decision?

My factors were "fit" and differences in clinical opps, with an eye towards cost.

I ended up going with cost because my state school was so cheap it was hard to pass it up.

Main factors: a balance of cost and quality/prestige. Also: family nearby, relaxing and aesthetically pleasing environment, curriculum, advise of multiple physician-friends, career goals and gut feeling.

How did you guys word your letters of withdrawal? I've got one written but it's pretty short. I dont' want to come off as ungrateful for being admitted, but at the same time I don't think it needs to be long and drawn out.

Suggestions?

My withdrawal letter was like 3 sentences. I just stated that I was grateful for the acceptance, really enjoyed meeting the staff & other students, but that I wanted to withdraw at this time. And I gave a phone number to contact me with any questions about the email. You won't come off as being ungrateful. Schools expect people to withdraw and aren't going to have any hard feelings.

I'm not sure abut others, but my withdrawal letters were also very short. I just thanked them for having honored me with an acceptance and mentioned that I hoped there would be some chance to work with them in the future. I wanted to keep it short so that they wouldn't have to read through a page worth of text to get a relatively simple message. But does anyone know if we need to call the schools for verification if we do not get a confirmation email before like 5PM today? I'm a little bit worried since I emailed my last letter earlier today and May 15th is a Saturday so we couldn't call tomorrow even if we wanted. Maybe wait until 3PM before calling then? Sorry if this question has been raised in other threads.

Keeping it short and sweet is totally fine -- that's pretty much what all of mine were like

Some schools have post withdrawal surveys and if I felt like I had some feedback that was useful, I wrote some lengthy comments there since I figured they might actually read it and find it helpful

They're going to know the date you contacted them just by the email, so I don't think you have to worry that much about it. I don't think you have to call them today. But definitely make sure they received it by early next week if you don't get a confirmation by then.

Very short - 1 sentence - to the point.

Don't apologize, don't express regret, just give it to them so they have zero doubt your intent, and don't burden them with some sob story.

Decided mostly based on fit, cost and reputation. My withdraw letters were 3 sentences long which very much said "thanks but no thanks."

Can someone clarify when the deadline is? Is it by 11:59 PM today (5/14) or is it by 11:59 PM tomorrow (5/15)? I know it's down to the wire but I'm just having a really hard time.

I still haven't sent mine... I'm going to do it today by email, is it ok?

My driving factors were cost, location, and distance from home (though things like p/f grading scale, electronic textbooks and larger hospital network affiliates didn't hurt, either). I had to turn down 1 school, but since the school was so small and close-knit (it definitely had a very family-like feel to it) I wrote them a nice letter basically saying "Thank you for considering me, but I had to go elsewhere for money reasons. It was a pleasure meeting you and the person who takes my spot will be lucky to have it."

If you really wanted to, you could just email them Sunday night (May 16th). No one will read emails over the weekend anyways. The May 15th date isn't a drop-dead date.
