So why did you want to be a DOCTOR?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The challenge.....the science.....personal reasons

Show me da money!!!!!

j/k

I wanted to be a doctor to help people.

sounds corny but there's a lot of sick people who need someone to fix em up...also it's a great challenge and an honorable profession. the workload is rough but worth it in the end...i hope!

1) Continuation of previous work...was a medic for 10 years in the Navy. This was building upon those skills. Love people..especially sick ones...who are usually much more honest and open to suggestion (for their health) than your average citizen.

2) Wondering: There are so many things that I came across as a medic, but either didn't have the education, or the sophistication to understand. Many of my questions have been answered...and have given birht to many more....doggone!

3) Career Move: Didn't want to be a medic forever...I wanted upward mobility, education, prestige, etc. (also, doctors are shot less than field medics in the desert)

how many of these kinds of threads do we need?

everyone is in it for the money.

nuff said.

I'm in it to get laid.

u need a topic/theme for your admissions essay or sumthin?

man. where are the honeys. they're supposed to be flocking to me already.

followup question: why physician versus any other healthcare field (ie, nursing, pharmacy, optometrist, dentist, etc)?

thanks,
phil

stop phishing for answers to your secondary essays. these are questions only you could answer since everyone was a different reason. some people do it for the $, challenge, womyn, drugs, etc.

Broadness and depth of knowledge base required
Ability to specialize if needed
Increased autonomy

I'm in it to lay roja. Failing that, I have every intention of finding a doctor husband. You know, someone who can provide me a decent life but is home a minimal amount of time. Gotta leave some time for the pool boy.

thanks for the response.

1. don't the fields i mentioned require a broad and deep knowledge?

2. dentists and optometrists can specialize as well, and nurses can become crna/nurse practitioners

3. more so than the other fields?

i guess what i'm asking is, what made medicine a uniquely better choice for you than any other healthcare field? thanks again for an interesting discussion.

Someone hit on a very important point above. I am surprised to find that women aren't flocking to me because I'm a med student. I was expecting to be able to go to bars and just say, "Yeah, I'm going to be a doctor someday. I guess that means that I'm handsome, rich, nice, and you should be with me. Now."

I wanted to be a physician to understand people, I enjoy science, and I want to make a better life for myself and those around me (especially some fine women like the ones I've been seeing in Vegas here all weekend).

Although some might try to downplay the intelligence of the average woman (sexism carryover from tradition), the truth is EVERY woman regardless of background, education, religion, etc. knows the difference between MEDICAL STUDENT and DOCTOR.

FYI the difference is about five to six zeroes behind your take home pay....

Funny. I happened to have one of my gross anatomy books with me at a sports bar the other night, and our extremely hot waitress noticed it and asked me if I was going to med school. I told her I was and she asked me if I needed a wife. The whole night she was sitting next to me rubbing her leg on me and putting her hand around my neck and ****. I am definately bringing these books out more often.

Yessssssssssssssss.

I guess I am not a city dude.....

Love suburban NY though, great state.
