What if you have an early interview, and you get the decision within a week after the interview that you're accepted... so lets say sometime in september or october.
What about the rest of the places you applied to? would you obliged to give the school that accepted you a decision before you see what your chances are with other interviews late in the season?

You put down a deposit and can keep interviewing at any places you might be more interested in. You can hold your spot until a certain date late in the process.

However, certain schools will not allow you to hold more than one acceptance...I think...

I'm still not entirely sure about the whole thing myself.

No. You can hold multiple acceptances - until mid-may, I believe. After that you can only hold one.

But you can't find out if you've been accepted at all until Oct. 16, correct?

I believe that's correct. It's either Oct 15/16. Just check MSAR.

yes, october 15 (supposedly) is the day when schools first tell regular applicants (not early decision) whether or not they've been accepted. but since that's a sunday, it'll be interesting to see how it happens this year.

you can hold as many acceptances as you want until may 15th, at which point you must withdraw from all but one. The "polite" thing to do seems to be to hold no more than a couple spots at schools you're really interested in, thereby releasing yourself from other schools and opening up spots to people still interviewing or on the wait list.
