My top choice school is pretty non-specific about which classes you take for social science, as long as you have 6 hours worth.

I took General Psychology and Intro to Sociology in undergrad and got a C in both unfortunately.

Some schools I'm looking at want you to have other social sciences such as Abnormal Psych or Developmental Psych, and others specifically want you to have general psych.

If I take Abnormal and Developmental would that count as a "General Pysch" because General Psych is a pre-req, or would they count my undergrad course?

Also, if I were to retake General Psych, do you tell PTCAS which one to count for your core GPA requirement? I don't mind retaking it if I will be able to use that score to pull my core GPA up, since my total GPA will be harder to move the needle on.

Thanks.

The general psych you took will most likely be classified as the general psych, not the other courses you took. PTCAS (if you're applying to schools that use it), can and probably will edit your listing if it's not listed as that.

PTCAS will count every course you ever took towards your GPA, even repeated courses despite certain university policies regarding replacing grades.

I understand PTCAS will count every class taken into the overall GPA. To clarify my question....

If I take General Psych again, will I be able to choose which course counts for my core/pre-req grade for the schools that specifically require General Psych as one of the pre-reqs? Since I (theoretically) would have the course twice, I would enter the second one into the core pre-req category and the first one as just regular credit attempted.

I realize both will be weighed into my overall GPA, but I need to get my pre-req GPA as high as possible to help compensate for a low overall GPA (harder to pull up due to the greater number of hours).

Also, if I take Abnormal and Developmental, will I be able to use those two courses as my 6 hours for "school A" and General and Abnormal for "school B" within PTCAS, or is it a one shot deal for all your pre-reqs?

Thanks.

Many schools will consider the average of the two grades as the prerequisite grade (so both grades go into the prerequisite calculation), but some schools consider only the higher grade in the prerequisite calculation, so you might want to check with the schools where you plan to apply.
