Hey guys I am trying to work out some ideas for next summer and I thought I'd follow it up with you guys/get some opinions.

I will hopefully finish physics and orgo as a sophomore. If it is successful (I really hope it is) that can leave me my whole summer to prepare to take the MCAT in the fall of my junior year.

The initial plan was to stay at my college over the summer taking one or two humanities courses for my general ed requirement and using my other free time to do focused studying for the MCAT.
It seemed like a good idea because there would be less distractions over there and I could get some core classes out of the way (humanities is pretty time consuming at my school with lots of reading).

Anyhow, I am currently shadowing/observing in the OR at a hospital. I am very close friends with one of the doctors who allowed me to observe and I got to know a few of the other surgeons/nurses while observing. I really love scrubbing in and learning about what they're doing. It's been a great experience.
I recently found out that they had a job opening for someone willing to assist in the OR. I'm unsure about the training and hours but I think other college students have done this before and you learn a lot from it.
The doctor I know encouraged me to apply and I would absolutely LOVE doing this job as I'd get some real experience (if I got it of course).
However this means letting go of my initial plans and coming home for the summer to work. I can't imagine it taking more time than a typical part time job but I can't say for sure yet.
Should I forget about summer classes and try for this job while also studying for the MCAT at home? I'm just unsure because I won't be able to dedicate 100% of my time and effort to studying for the exam.

Sorry for the long post and any advice is appreciated.

Take the job!!!!

Take the job it's not like it will hurt your studying for the MCAT, you just have to plan and stick to it

Sounds good, thank you for the feedback. I thought this thread had disappeared. 🙂

I contacted the doctor and he said I could go in for an interview sometime next week. Hopefully they'll give me the job.

He also said I could choose the hours but even doing full time, if studying is manageable for the MCAT I'll hopefully be able to make the time.
