Hey guys,

I absolutely am convinced that I should resign from my current job. I feel as if my boss is too demanding and after 1.5 years, I want to say quits.
I am concerned about what the impact of quitting my current job will have on my application process to med school. The woman I work for is a current tenured faculty member of the medical school I attended as undergrad and is my first choice school. She already wrote my rec and I've already been interviewed at the med school.
Do you think that the med schools actually would call up my 'ex-boss' and check up on me? Would they look down on me if I told them that I quit? Please help me out.

Welll, this probably depends on your "spin". If you make it an issue of personalities, it may bite you in the a$$ later on. If you say that you are ready to "move on" and have something else better lined up, then do your thing. I don't think they'd necessarily "check on you" and if they did, they probably would have done it when deciding to interview you.

Besides, can you financially afford to quit? I've thought about quitting my job before, but then rent is due, insurance is due, credit card bills are due...

I'd say wait it out. If you have any concerns, you'll be hearing back from the school sometime soon, right?

If you have to go, you have to go - stress effecting health, harassment, nightmares, etc. But if you can, wait til you get your acceptance...

I think that since they already have a letter from this lady, they'd be less likely to call her - they've already gotten the skinny on you.

Good luck with it.

Thank you so much.
I am going to tell her that I will be leaving today. Wish me luck!

huh? you thank him for saying to stick it out and then you say you're quitting? Good luck; I would have stuck it out until i got a decision from that school. Please thank her for the letter again and give adequate notice so she isn't left hanging with inadequate staff.

just don't make a big deal out of it and it's not gonna matter. as long as you don't leave on bad terms, this persons opinion of you isn't going to change. their positive opinion was built of 1.5 years, so unless you do something absolutely crazy, leaving a job isn't going to change that.

good luck,
s
